Describe your employment history for the past 10 years including dates:

In the decade between 1992 and 2002, I was self-employed as a writer and publisher, national keynote speaker at several national symposia on symbolism, performing regularly at the Gardenia Center in Sandpoint, including a series of one-woman shows in which senior wisdom wins the day.  I’ve appeared in the Storytelling Tent for the Festival at Sandpoint, told stories to groups of children for the Young Authors' Conference sponsored by the Lakeland School District, and performed classic folk tales at the East Bonner County Free Library District, where I was hired as “scholar” to facilitate a national discussion series called Not for Children Only.

December 2001 to December 2002: Instructional Assistant, North Idaho College

February 2003: Office Supervisor for Borders Books and Music in Coeur d’Alene

December 2004: hired by Robert Wood Johnson Planning Grant called North Idaho Linkages Caring for Older Adults

Since April 2006, I’ve been retired, writing full-time.

What are your three priority issues and why:

1.       Education

It is in our best interest that we vitalize public education for everyone.  Too many of our schools are overcrowded and in poor condition.  Too many of our schools are forced to set up classrooms in trailers in order to accommodate rapidly rising enrollments.  Too many of our schools also need extensive repair or replacement.  I will actively support legislation that will help school districts reduce their class sizes and finance school repair, construction and modernization projects at local prevailing wages.

    1. Seniors

If my face looks familiar to you, it may be because I convened town hall meetings and focus groups in the five northern counties to get agencies, providers and seniors to work together to improve quality and accessibility to health care and support services, and this remains one of my passions.

    1. Making the System Work for Individuals

Workers' real wages are falling and family incomes are flat.  The manufacturing jobs have been hardest hit but other sectors such as telecommunications, information technology, logging and construction have sustained major blows as well. The minimum wage is at the lowest level in real-dollar terms since 1955 and inflation continues to erode that value.

The problem is not just lost jobs - the jobs being created are not as good; many of them have no provision for a pension or health insurance.  I will support an increase in the minimum wage to a living wage, and legislation that offers incentives to employers who provide full-time employees with health insurance and a pension.

Tell me your priorities so I can represent you faithfully in District Two!
